Endometriosis Kosi Community

What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a common disease where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows outside it in other parts of the body. More than 830,000 (more than 11%) of Australian girls, women, and those assigned female at birth* live with endometriosis at some point in their life, with the disease often starting in teenagers.

Symptoms are variable and this may contribute to the 6.5 year delay in diagnosis. Common symptoms include pelvic pain that puts life on hold around or during a person’s period. It can impact fertility for some but not for all.

Endometriosis most often affects the reproductive organs but it can also be found in and around the bowel and bladder. It has been found in every part of the body, including the skin, joints, lungs and brain.

Kosi Community

A letter from our Founder, Kellie.

Dear Endometriosis,

Thank you for teaching me patience. Thank you for showing me how strong I am. Thank you for showing me the value of my health, and reminding me to make the most of my good days.

You have challenged me more than anything else. You have robbed me of my dignity. You have stolen years of my life. You have taken my unborn children from me & caused me so much heartache.

But you have given me so much in return. In a world where we view our bodies purely for aesthetics, you are a harsh reminder that health and the functioning of our body is worth so much more. You have taught me to be kind to others, because so many people are suffering behind closed doors. You have given me the wonderful Endo community who are full of strong, smart & unbreakable human beings. They not only deal with this disease with elegance and strength, but they actively fight for awareness and change.

You are what drove me to give back to this community. In frustration I found a solution to my own pain, but it allowed me to provide some relief to the community that had helped me so much.

My hope for the future is that we can find an End to Endo. Extreme period pain is not normal. Together we can bring awareness and fight this awful condition.

I believe that everyone deserves to live pain free.

A woman on a mission,
Kellie
